Women’s Tennis Tops Georgia Southern

TROY, Ala. – Troy women's tennis concluded the regular season with a 12-7 (6-1) record after defeating Georgia Southern, 4-2. The Trojans have secured double-digit wins in every season dating back to 2020-21.
The duo of Hiba Heni and Leena Metwally were the first Trojans to claim victory after defeating Franzi Heinemann and Nanaka Kijima on court three, 7-5. On court one, Valeriia Avdeeva and Maria Guirguis officially secured the doubles point for Troy by topping Angelina Mihajlovic and Evelyn Warkentin, 7-5.
Avdeeva carried her momentum into singles play where she again faced Mihajlovic who she defeated, 6-2, 6-0. Alexia Zarate moved the score to 3-0 in favor of the Trojans after conquering Amelie Rosadoro in straight sets, 6-4 followed by 6-1. Georgia Southern took the next two points setting the score at 3-2 with two matches left in play.
With the Eagles threatening, Leena Metwally took matters into her own hands and closed the door on Georgia Southern against Franzi Heinemann. Heinemann took set one 6-3, but Metwally stormed back and took sets two and three, 6-0 and 6-2.
With the regular season completed, Troy's next stop is Rome, Georgia to do battle in the Sun Belt Tournament. Action is set to begin Wednesday, April 22 and run through Sunday, April 26.
