Crane Leads Troy to Strong Finish at Mossy Oak

WEST POINT, Miss. – The Troy men's golf team continued its strong finish to the spring season, finishing sixth at the Mossy Oak Collegiate in a field that featured three teams ranked inside the top 20 and 10 ranked inside the top 75 as play concluded Tuesday at the Mossy Oak Golf Club.

The Trojans knocked off a quartet of Sun Belt foes – South Alabama, Southern Miss, Coastal Carolina and ULM – and picked up additional wins over Kansas State, Memphis, Middle Tennessee and Rice, among others. Troy shot 9-over on Tuesday to rally past South Alabama by two shots.

No. 15 Ole Miss and Mississippi State tied for the team title at 17-under after the Bulldogs came back from nine shots down, while No. 10 Vanderbilt and No. 17 Alabama rounded out the top four.

Freshman Thomas Crane raced out to a 4-under following his first 10 holes of the day before settling at even-par for the round and the tournament, good for a tie for 18^th place. He finished with 14 birdies over his three rounds, tied for the fourth most in the field.

Troy has now turned in back-to-back fourth-place finishes, plus the sixth place this week, leading into the Sun Belt Championship at the end of the month.

Lee Poppell and Pablo Gracia tied for 23rd place at 1-over after shooting rounds of 73 and 72, respectively, Tuesday. Poppell carded four birdies on the back nine, while Gracia split three over the course. Gracia tied for second in the field with a cumulative 1-under on the par 3s, while Troy was fifth at a team on the holes.

Haston Emblom finished in a tie for 89th place after shooting 12-over in the final round, while his brother, Lawton, tied for 93rd place after an 80 on Tuesday.

Troy competes in the Sun Belt Championship, April 27-30 at the Annadale Golf Club in Madison, Miss.
