STATESBORO, Ga. - After a pair of non-conference games in the midweek, Troy baseball returns to Sun Belt action this weekend with a three-game series at Georgia Southern Friday through Sunday.
The Trojans dropped their first home midweek game of the season to Samford on Tuesday before getting back in the win column with a 7-4 victory at Florida A&M on Wednesday. Drew Nelson led the way with three hits against Samford before putting up two hits with a sac fly while batting in the leadoff spot for the first time against FAMU.
On the mound, Troy will keep the same rotation from last week's series at No. 12 Southern Miss. In the Friday spot, Benjamin Stubbs has been a workhorse, going seven innings in three of his last four starts, while strikeout machines Dylan Alonso and Tommy Egan will take the mound on Saturday and Sunday. Alonso has fanned 27 hitters in 19 innings while Egan leads the team with 36 punchouts in 28.2 innings.
Georgia Southern enters the weekend at 7-18 overall and is off to a 1-5 start in Sun Belt Conference play. Offensively, the Eagles are hitting a solid .289 as a club and are led by senior Kentucky transfer James McCoy with a .376 average and five homers. On the mound, Georgia Southern has pitched to a 9.25 ERA, which ranks last in the Sun Belt.
