TROY, Ala. - Troy right-hander Tommy Egan was named to the National Pitcher of the Year Watch List on Wednesday, the College Baseball Foundation announced, following a dominant start to his senior season.
"Tommy has been very solid to start the year and is going to be asked to continue to do that as we embark on phase two of our season in conference play," head coach Skylar Meade said. "Glad Tommy is here in Troy, and hopefully he can leave quite the mark over the next three months."
After earning All-Missouri Valley Conference Honorable Mention honors during a solid redshirt junior season at Illinois-Chicago, posting a 4.76 ERA across nine starts, Egan has taken his game to another level since joining the Trojans.
The Chicago native has anchored the Friday night role for Troy, posting a 2.25 ERA while working 5.0 innings in each of his first four starts. Egan has struck out 27 batters against just six walks over 20 innings, allowing only 14 hits and holding opponents to a .197 batting average.
Egan earned his second win of the season in his most recent start against Maryland last Friday. The righty tossed five innings without a run, striking out seven to just one walk in a 5-2 Trojan win over the Terrapins of the Big Ten. He recorded a career-high nine strikeouts two weeks prior, firing five shutout innings in a 13-3 win over Campbell.
Egan and the Trojans open Sun Belt Conference Play at Riddle-Pace Field this weekend with a three-game series against Old Dominion, Friday through Sunday.
