Women’s Basketball Faces Coastal Carolina in Weather-Altered Matchup

CONWAY, S.C. – Due to impending weather, the Troy women's basketball team is set to face Coastal Carolina in the HTC Center on Friday, Jan. 30, at 1:30 p.m.
The Trojans (17-4, 8-2 SBC) face an advanced game schedule as they look for their fourth straight victory over the Chanticleers (11-4, 4-6 SBC). Troy hasn't lost to Coastal Carolina on the road since 2020, leading the all-time series at 13-4 and 5-2 on the road.

Comeback to 500 Wins
Head coach Chanda Rigby's 500th career collegiate victory came with a 21-point comeback at Marshall on Wednesday night. Her Trojans were down 21 with 44 seconds left in the second quarter. Then, down 20 to start the third, Troy outscored Marshall 30-13 in the third quarter on 72.2 percent shooting and completed the comeback with 57 remaining in the game on an Ashley Baez 3-pointer, 85-82.
Troy is the only Division I program with two players averaging double-doubles: Zay Dyer and Fortuna Ngnawo. Dyer sits atop the Sun Belt Conference with 13 double-doubles on 13.8 points and 12.2 rebounds. Her 12.2 rebounds sit third in the nation. Following in second for the conference with 11 double-doubles is Ngnawo, who leads the Trojans with 15 points per game and 10 rebounds. Together, they've helped Troy rank No. 1 in the country for rebounds at 50.8.
The last time Troy and Coastal Carolina met, the game went to overtime on Jan. 2, 2025, with the Trojans winning 92-84. Dyer had a historic 25-point, 21-rebound and 4-block performance in the victory, with her 21 rebounds being tied for the fifth-most in a Troy D-I single game. Leilani Guion also posted a then-career-high 20 points on 8-of-13 from the field and four 3-pointers.

The Chanticleers had a tough 1-5 start to league play, but have won three of their last four to sit at .500. After giving Louisiana its only league win, Coastal Carolina rattled off two wins over Southern Miss and Texas State. Coastal enters Friday's matchup as the league-leader in 3-point percentage at 34.7 on 8.9 per game (third in the SBC). Playing the third-most minutes in the SBC (33.7), Kristin Williams leads the conference in 3-pointers (70) with 3.2 per game. She's also seventh in scoring at 14.1.
