TROY, Ala. – Three first-place finishes at the Doc Anderson Invitational over the weekend secured Sun Belt Conference Female Track Athlete of the Week for Shanyah Washington, the league announced Wednesday morning.
"Shanyah had a great weekend with multiple first-place finishes," director of track & field / cross country Marc Davis said. "From the start of fall training until now, she's been showing steady positive progress. This past weekend, she had a couple of breakthrough performances and showed what kind of sprinter she can be. I am proud of Shanyah for her tenacity and ability to overcome obstacles that jump in her way. Congrats on the honor this week."
Washington took home three first-place finishes at the Doc Anderson Invitational in sprint events. Her top performance came in the women's 200m, where she secured a personal best at 23.72. She also took home a first-place finish in the 100m dash, timing at 11.20 to rank 17th in the USTFCCCA.
The Miami native joined forces with Jasmine Jiminez, Catherine Forbes and Aaliyah Murphy to round out her trio of gold medals in the 4x100m – they timed at 45.80. With the accolade, Washington becomes the first Trojan to receive recognition in 2024-25 and the first since Cole Stewart in 2024 – the first female track athlete since Niata Alexander in 2019.
Troy and Washington continue their 2025 outdoor season at the Alabama Crimson Classic this weekend.
