Troy Takes Down Arkansas State, 4-3

TROY, Ala. – In its longest match of the season, the Troy women's tennis team took down Arkansas State 4-3 on Saturday afternoon at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
Troy (9-7, 4-3 SBC) won four singles matches to clinch its second-straight dual. The match exceeded the four-hour mark. Arkansas State (11-8, 4-4 SBC) won the doubles point but couldn't overcome the Trojans' singles surge.
The Red Wolves opened things up with a 6-4 win in the top doubles spot before the Trojans tied it with a 6-3 win at No. 2. Arkansas State was able to pull ahead 1-0 thanks to a 7-6 (9-7) win at No. 3. Going into the match, Troy was 1-6 when dropping the doubles point.
The Trojans deficit didn't last long, as Valeriia Avdeeva tied things up at 1-1 with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 3. Avdeeva has now won her last 13 matches and is 14-1 this spring. The Red Wolves jumped back ahead with a win at No. 6 to make it 2-1.
The back-and-forth continued after Maria Guirguis won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 to level things up but Troy quickly found itself down 3-2 after Arkansas State won at No. 5.
The Trojans needed to win both remaining singles matches on courts 1 and 4. Gabrielle Leslie had an impressive 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) win in the top spot to make it 3-3. With the match on the line, Troy turned to Leena Metwally in the No. 4 spot and she delivered, recording a 6-1, 5-7, 7-6 (8-6) win to clinch the dual for the Trojans.
