Troy In Battle for Final Match Play Spot at SBC Championship

POINT CLEAR, Ala. – Troy slipped one spot into a tie for sixth place following Tuesday's second round of the Sun Belt Women's Golf Championship at the Lakewood Golf Club; the Trojans are two shots back of a spot in match play with 18 holes to play.
The Trojans were in a solid position to hold down the No. 4 spot on the leaderboard, heading to No. 18 following a pair of birdies from Victoria Stutts and Mathilda Ringblom on the par-5 16th. However, the Trojans shot 3-over on the 18th, while South Alabama and Southern Miss were even on their final holes of the day.
Stutts carded five birdies on the day as she shot 2-under for her team-leading sixth round under-par this season, while Troy's 594 as a team is tied for its third-best 36-hole score of the year. Stutts climbed 11 spots on the leaderboard into a tie for eighth place at even for the week.
Troy is a collective 12-under on the par 5s for the week, tops in the field.
Alyssa Mercado made the biggest jump up the leaderboard as she rocketed from 44th place entering Tuesday into a tie for 23rd by the end of the day. The Troy senior birdied twice on the front nine and finished the day even after shooting 5-over on Monday.
Laura Fangmeyer is tied for 34th place after dropping a 79 in the second round, followed by Ringblom in a tie for 41st place after she shot 77 on the day and Manya Saini in a tie for 49th place after she carded an 81.
No. 33 Georgia Southern holds a seven-shot advantage over Coastal Carolina and ULM is a shot back of the Chanticleers in third place. South Alabama and Southern Miss are tied for the all-important fourth position at 17-over par (eight shots back of Coastal), with Troy and Georgia State two shots back at 19-over and Texas State sitting at 24-over.
The top four teams will advance to match play on Thursday where both the semifinals and finals will take place.
Tee times for Wednesday's final round have not yet been announced.
