Women’s Golf Comes Up Just Short at SBC Championship; Finishes Sixth

POINT CLEAR, Ala. – Tied with four holes to go for the final match play spot in the Sun Belt Conference Women's Golf Championship, the Troy women's golf team came up just short and finished in sixth place as play wrapped up Wednesday at the Lakewood Golf Course.

Troy and ULM were tied at 21-over par following a birdie by Laura Fangmeyer on the par-4 14^th. However, the Trojans carded two birdies, six bogeys and a double-bogey among its counting bags from that point on, while ULM held steady with two birdies and two bogeys.

Georgia Southern won the stroke play portion of the SBC Championship and will take on ULM in the semifinals of match play, while Coastal Carolina and Southern Miss will match up in the other semifinal. South Alabama finished one shot ahead of Troy in fifth place.

Fangmeyer turned in Troy's second-best round of the week, shooting 1-under thanks to three birdies and just two bogeys as she climbed into a tie for 21^st place overall. Fangmeyer finished her SBC Championship with eight birdies over her 54 holes.

Victoria Stutts closed out her first season as a Trojan with her fourth top-10 finish of the year after tying for eighth place at 4-over for the week. Stutts was responsible for Troy's two birdies down the stretch as she shot 74 and finished with a team-best 12 birdies for the tournament.

Alyssa Mercado wrapped up her Troy career tying for 27^th place at the Sun Belt Championship thanks to a strong finish with a 3-over 75. Mathilda Ringblom closed out her rookie campaign, shooting 82 on the day and tying for 55^th place. Katelynn Altese subbed into the lineup for the Trojans in Wednesday's final round and carded a birdie on her first hole en route to a 77 for the day.
