Women’s Tennis Falls to South Alabama

MOBILE, Ala. – The Troy women's team came up just short in its conference opener on Saturday afternoon, falling to No. 41 South Alabama 4-2 at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Courts.
Troy (5-5, 0-1 SBC) battled tough all afternoon but couldn't put together the comeback needed to overcome South Alabama (8-2, 1-0 SBC) in singles.
The Jaguars opened things in doubles with a 6-1 win in the No. 2 spot, before clinching the 1-0 lead with a 6-4 win in the No. 1 spot. The third doubles match went unfinished with South Alabama leading 5-3.
In singles, the Jaguars extended its lead to 2-0 with a 6-3, 6-2 win in the No. 2 spot. The Trojans got on the board thanks to a 6-2, 6-2 win on court four from Valeriia Avdeeva. Veena Nazar followed Avdeeva's win with a 6-3, 6-4 win of her own in the No. 6 spot to even things up at 2-2.
South Alabama got within one point of the match victory thanks to a 6-4, 7-5 win in the third spot. The Jaguars clinched the match with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 win in the top spot. The final match of the day went unfinished on court five with Hagar Ramadan-Amin in a three-set fight.
