No. 18 Troy Run-Rules UAB at Rickwood Field

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - A hot day at the plate from the Troy offense propelled the No. 18 Trojans to a 14-2 win in seven innings over UAB at historic Rickwood Field.
The Trojans recorded 15 hits on the afternoon and pegged UAB starter Braxton Shelton for six runs and eight hits in 3.1 innings. Troy scored five of those runs in the second inning, recording five hits and a walk in the frame, highlighted by doubles from Harrison Bowman, Gavin Schrader and Jason Hawkins.
Schrader was named Sun Belt Player of the Week after going 6-for-12 at the plate with a pair of homers at Louisiana over the weekend and followed it up with a 4-for-4 day with two doubles and two RBIs on Tuesday. Bowman's double in the second inning was the first of his career, and the sophomore hit his first career homer in the sixth inning on a three-run shot over the left field wall.
On the mound, senior lefty Jacob Roettgen made his second start of the season, going a career-high 4.0 innings and earning his first career win. The Jefferson City, Mo., native allowed just one hit and one walk while matching his career high with three strikeouts.
Noah Thigpen allowed one run in the fifth before Colby Frieda entered with one out to strand the bases loaded. Frieda has now gone his last six appearances and 11.0 innings without surrendering a hit. Adam Falinski pitched a hitless sixth inning with a pair of strikeouts, while George Welch struck out two in a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
