Women’s Basketball Continues Homestand with MAC-SBC Challenge

TROY, Ala. – Troy continues its four-game homestand with game two of the MAC-SBC challenge, welcoming Kent State to Trojan Arena on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Trojans (15-9, 9-3 SBC) briefly pause league play as they look to improve their MAC-SBC Challenge record to .500 (1-2) against the Golden Flashes, who (15-8, 8-3 SBC) are 4-5 on the road.

Troy found redemption from the controversial six-women on the court exit in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament two years ago with its first-ever victory over Old Dominion, 83-80. The win also clinched a victory over every current Sun Belt foe for head coach Chanda Rigby. She also opened 7-0 in Trojan Arena for the second time in Rigby's tenure – Troy opened 5-0 in SBC play at home for the first time ever.
Brianna Jackson, an Old Dominion transfer, faced her former team in historic fashion, seizing 22 rebounds to tie Felmas Koranga (March 8, 2021) and Caitlyn Ramirez (March 9, 2017) for the second-most rebounds in a D-I Troy single-game – she also tied Sky'Lynn Holmes and Zay Dyer for the fifth-most rebounds in a single game (21) at James Madison (Dec. 29, 2024). Jackson also tied Zay Dyer with a team-high 19 points to record her sixth straight game with 10-plus points.
Shaulana Wagner made her first appearance since Marshall on Jan. 4 in Trojan Arena and stuffed the stat sheet with a team-high five assists with two points, five rebounds and a steal to boost. She's led the Trojans in either points or assists in all 16 games played. Her five assists also marked her 11th game of 2024-25 with 5-plus, increasing her career total to 26.
In the Trojans first MAC-SBC Challenge of 2024-25, they opened the new season at Buffalo with a tight 80-78 loss. However, Jackson opened her Troy career with six blocks while Briana Peguero led the team with 15 points on 5-of-7 from behind the arc. Troy held firm on the defensive end against the MAC foe, keeping Buffalo at 35.4 percent from the field, but 18 turnovers decided the game.
Charity Stripe Lovers
Kent State faced James Madison in its first MAC-SBC Challenge on Nov. 4, where the MAC team was handed a 67-56 loss. The Golden Flashes proceeded to go 7-4 in nonconference play before going 8-3 in MAC play to sit tied with Buffalo and Toledo for second. The charity stripe is where Kent State is elite, leading the MAC and ranking second in the nation at 81.5 percent. Their nonconference free throw percentage is even higher at 83.3 percent.
Like Dyer, Bridget Dunn leads her respective conference in defensive rebounding with 8.7 per game – she ranks fourth in the nation. She also sits second in total rebounds for the MAC and 25th in D-I basketball at 10.0. Dunn also plays the role of shot blocker for Kent State, with 24 total blocks (1.04 per game) to sit third in the conference.
