Jimmy Janicki Tabbed Preseason Sun Belt Freshman of the Year by Perfect Game

TROY, Ala. - Troy's Jimmy Janicki was tabbed the Sun Belt Preseason Freshman of the Year by Perfect Game.Â
Janicki, a freshman from Downers Grove, Ill., was a standout high school player in Illinois, hitting .451 with 13 home runs across his junior and senior seasons at Downers Grove North High School.Â
"Jimmy is going to be a star in this game," head coach Skylar Meade said. "His skill set is vast, yet he has a very steady way to him that makes him mature beyond his age. We just want him to remain confident and steady as he enters this year. We are certain he will handle anything thrown at him, and above all we are most thrilled that his career as a Trojan is soon to begin."  A powerful 6'4", 231-pound right-handed hitter, Janicki is expected to play a huge role for the Trojans as a freshman and brings versatility as a catcher and a third baseman. D1Baseball ranked Janicki No. 38 in its Top 50 third baseman rankings, also having him as its top third baseman in the Sun Belt and No. 3 freshman third baseman in the country.Â
Troy enters the 2025 season ranked No. 25 by D1Baseball and the USA Today Coaches Poll. The Trojans open the year Feb. 14-16 at Riddle-Pace Field with a three-game series against Bellarmine.Â
