TROY, Ala. - Currently sitting on a five-game winning streak, the No. 20 Troy baseball team is set to host Penn for a three-game series at Riddle-Pace Field this weekend.Â
The Trojans swept Northwestern State over the weekend and picked up a pair of big midweek victories at No. 15 Mississippi State on Tuesday and against in-state foe UAB on Wednesday.Â
Senior Shane Lewis has been swinging a hot bat, as he's tied for the Sun Belt lead with five home runs this season. The Vicksburg, Miss., native crushed two home runs at Mississippi State on Tuesday, while Steven Meier hit a go-ahead solo shot in the top of the ninth to give the Trojans the victory.Â
On the mound, the Trojans will keep the rotation after Garrett Gainous, Noah Edders and Drew Nelson all put together strong starts against Northwestern State. Gainous pitched five innings of one-run ball, Edders struck out seven in five innings and Nelson took a no-hitter into the fifth inning.Â
This weekend's series will be the first-ever meeting between Penn and Troy. The back-to-back Ivy League Champions are off to an 0-3 start to the season, getting swept at No. 9 Florida State last weekend.Â
