Men’s Basketball Hosts Coastal Carolina for Home Finale and Senior Day

TROY, Ala. – Troy wraps up its 2024-25 home slate on Saturday afternoon as it welcomes Coastal Carolina to Trojan Arena for a 3:33 p.m. tipoff.
Prior to the game Troy will recognize and honor seniors Tayton Conerway, Theo Seng, Randarius Jones and Braydon Whitaker for all their contributions to the program the last two seasons. The Trojans will also be honoring managers Marquel Bryant and Parker Turner.
Troy (17-10, 10-5 SBC) is coming off a tough loss on Thursday night, as it fell to Louisiana by three. Coastal Carolina (9-19, 2-13 SBC) picked up a road win over Southern Miss on Thursday night in Hattiesburg.

Despite the loss on Thursday, the Trojans got a valiant effort from Conerway, who had 16 points and a career-high 13 rebounds to record his second double-double of the season and of his career. He also added eight assists and nearly completed the first triple-double in D-I program history. Also scoring in double-figures for Troy was Thomas Dowd and Jackson Fields, who each had 11.
With just three regular season games left to play, the Trojans are currently sitting tied for second in the Sun Belt standings and would be the No. 3 seed in the Sun Belt Tournament if the season ended today. Troy is one game back of South Alabama and James Madison for first place.
A key to finding success down the stretch will be playing clean basketball. On Thursday the Trojans turned it over 16 times, were 38.5 percent from the field and shot 62.5 percent from the charity stripe.
Thursday was just the fourth loss of the season for Troy when its leading at halftime. Entering the game, Troy was 15-3 (8-2 SBC) when up at the break. Troy, who scored 69 points in the loss, are 3-8 this year when scoring less than 70 points.
Conerway continues to lead Troy in a number of categories, including points per game (13.1) assists per game (5.0) and steals per game (2.9). Dowd has also given Troy more consistent offense as of late, recording 11 or more points in four straight games to get him to 9.0 points per game this season.
Scouting Coastal Carolina
The Chanticleers picked up their ninth win of the season on Thursday, defeating Southern Miss 87-78 on the road. Jordan Battle had 29 points in the victory. Battle leads Coastal Carolina in scoring this season at 12.7 points per game, while Rasheed Jones (11.7) and Noah Amenhauser (10.3) are also sitting in double-figures.
Coastal Carolina leads the all-time series against Troy 9-8, but the Trojans have won the last two contests. Last season, Troy picked up a 72-65 win in Conway. The last time the two teams faced off in Trojan Arena was Feb. 24, 2023, which resulted in a 95-74 Troy win.
Notables
• Scott Cross is in his sixth season at the helm for Troy men's basketball, and his 18th as a Division I men's basketball head coach. While at Troy he has put together a 97-86 record, which includes three
straight seasons of 20 or more wins. The Trojans have also won 10 or more conference games in each of the last four years, including 2024-25.
• Troy fell to Louisiana at home on Thursday night, 72-69. Troy struggled in the final 20 minutes, as Louisiana shot 53.8 percent to close out the game.
• Tayton Conerway recorded a double-double with 16 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. It was his second double-double of the season.
• In arguably the biggest game in the Sun Belt this season, Troy went into Jonesboro, Ark., and stunned Arkansas State on national television 71-70.
• Jackson Fields had a career-high 20 points and five made threes, while the Trojan defense stepped up big and held the Red Wolves to 38.5 percent shooting.
• Conerway has scored in double-digits in all 14 of 15 conference games this year and has 11 games of 15-plus points.
• Conerway's career-high 32 points against Arkansas State on Jan. 11 was the first time a Trojan has scored 30-plus points since 2019.
• Against ULM on Jan. 15, Conerway had the first double-double of his career with 10 points and a career-high 12 assists.
• Conerway was two assists shy of recording Troy's first D-I triple-double on Thursday night against Louisiana.
• The Trojans entered 2024-25 picked to finish third in the Sun Belt Coaches Preseason Poll, which is the highest it had been selected to finish since the start of the 2017-18 season. Troy received one first
place vote.
• Troy's last regular season conference title came during the 2008-09 season.
• Scott Cross has started 21 of 26 games this season with the same starting lineup (Rigsby Jr., Conerway, Rigsby, Dowd and Fields).
