Women’s Basketball Returns to League Play Against ULM

TROY, Ala. – Sun Belt Conference play returns for the Troy women's basketball program after a brief MAC-SBC Challenge hiatus on Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 6 p.m. when ULM comes to Trojan Arena.
The Trojans (15-10, 9-3 SBC) can focus on Sun Belt Play as they enter the final six regular season games as the No. 3 seed, tied with App State and seated two games back from a bye into the semifinals. Conversely, the Warhawks (9-14, 5-7 SBC) have lost three straight games to sit tied for eighth with Georgia State.

Loyal to the Soil
Troy split its opponents this past weekend against Old Dominion and Kent State, claiming the first-ever win over the Monarchs in program history, 83-80, before falling to 1-3 in the MAC-SBC Challenge, 84-73. The week continued Troy's trend of being 12-0, 8-0 SBC when scoring 80-plus points, as opposed to 3-10, 1-3 SBC when scoring less.
In Trojan Arena, Troy has excelled to a 7-1, 5-0 SBC record, with Zay Dyer leading the way via points (14.3) and rebounds (10.5). Behind Dyer is Briana Peguero, who's gone 21-of-22 from the charity stripe en route to 11.4 points per game. As a unit, Troy outscored its opponents 87.8-70.5 for a plus-17.3 margin of victory. The rebound and turnover battle also favors the Trojans in Trojan Arena, winning 51.3-35.1 and 16.0-17.3, respectively.
Over the last 10 league games, it's been a balanced approach on who will take over for the Trojans as they've had five different leading scorers to go 8-2 via Dyer (3), Peguero (3), Brianna Jackson (3), Emani Jenkins (3) and Ashley Baez (2). Peguero remains the leader in scoring through the 10 games with 13.9 points on 44.7 percent shooting from the field, 46.9 percent from deep and 86.5 percent at the line.
Fortuna Ngnawo has silently produced 10-plus points in five of her last 10 league games. The Cameroon native also comes off a career-high 25 points on her 22nd birthday, where she shot 12-of-20 and grabbed eight rebounds and two steals off the bench. Overall, she's averaged 9.8 points, 7.8 rebounds and 1.2 steals in 20.2 minutes of action to be the third-leading scorer.
End the Streak
ULM started league play at 5-4 before being handed three straight losses to Texas State (67-64), App State (73-71) and South Alabama (73-68). The loss to the Jaguars marked the first win of 2024-25 for USA as ULM allowed South Alabama to shoot above 60 percent in the first and fourth quarters.
Like Troy's most recent foe, Kent State, the Warhawks excel at the charity stripe, leading the league in free throws made (14.26) and free throw percentage (74). The team from Monroe is also protective of the orange as the team averages the least number of turnovers in the SBC (14). Jakayla Johnson leads the individual category at the charity stripe, shooting 83.7 percent for 74th in the country – she also sits 11th in steals (1.78), second in points (15.6) and eighth in field goal percentage (41.5).
