TROY, Ala. – Off to its best start in Division I history, the Troy women's basketball program heads to Longwood for a matchup at the Joan Perry Brock Center on Wednesday, Dec. 3, at 10 a.m.
The Trojans (7-1) are off to their best start in Division-I history and their best overall since 1991-92 when the team opened 10-1. They face the Lancers (6-3) for the first time since 2010, with the series split at one apiece.

Best Start in Three Decades
Troy was crowned champion of the Resorts World Las Vegas Classic as the lone 2-0 team from the tournament, defeating Texas Southern (103-74) and Florida Gulf Coast (74-70) to improve to 7-1. It's the third straight season the Trojans were crowned in an in-season tournament, with the Austin Peay Christmas Classic in 2023 and the Great Alaska Shootout in 2024.
Zay Dyer led the way in Las Vegas with a pair of double-doubles: Texas Southern (10 points, 11 rebounds), Florida Gulf Coast (22 points, 14 rebounds). She averaged 16 points, 12.5 rebounds, 1.5 blocks and a steal in the tournament. Fortuna Ngnawo followed with 15.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and two blocks, including her second double-double (14 points, 11 rebounds) against Florida Gulf Coast.
En route to the best start in D-I history, Troy leads the Sun Belt Conference in free throws made per game (16.1), defensive rebounds (30.9), total rebounds (46.8) and scoring offense (83.3). In seven of its eight games, Troy has scored 70-plus points, outrebounded the opposition, forced 15-plus turnovers and shot above 40 percent from the field. Ngnawo has scored 10-plus points in all eight games to rank fifth in the league with 15.5 points – she also ranks fourth in blocks (1.8) and fourth in rebounds (7.6).
Scouting Longwood
The Lancers enter Wednesday morning's matchup as the eighth-best team in steals with 15.9 per game, with three players ranked in the top-5 in the Big South: Jesstynie Scott (first – 2.7), Malea Brown (fourth – 2.4), Jasmine Peaks (fourth – 2.4). Longwood has won two straight games with a 2-0 showing at the 2025 Puerto Rico Clasico, winning over Buffalo (68-64) and Stephen F. Austin (68-60).
