BOONE, N.C.– Troy volleyball closed out its regular season on Saturday, falling to App State in three sets (25-23, 25-17, 25-20).
Troy hit .195 as a team, but it was service aces that cost them, as the Trojans committed 17 service errors. Amiah Butler led the team in kills with 14, but it was sophomore Olivia Kwiatkowski who had the best performance of the day. Kwiatkowski put down 10 kills on a .562 hitting clip. She also added 10 digs for a double-double.
App State closed out its season with a senior day win, despite no Mountaineers registering double-digit kills. App State registered only 32 kills, but hit .253 opposed to Troy's .195 clip.
Set 1 – TROY 23, App St. 25
The first set of the match featured 10 ties, despite the lead only changing sides twice. App State jumped out to an early 5-3 lead, but a quick run from Troy capped off by a Butler kill gave the Trojans an 9-7 advantage. From there, the Mountaineers won eight of the next 11 points to take control of the set, which they would go onto narrowly win.
Set 2 – TROY 17, App St. 25
App State displayed its best offense of the match in the second, hitting .364. Maya Winterhoff and Delanie Grevengoed both tallied three kills in the set. For Troy, Amiah put down five balls on 10 swings, but the Trojans dug an early hole that they could not recover from, allowing App State to take a two-set advantage.
Set 3 – TROY 20, App St. 25
The story of the third and final set was Troy's serve, as the Trojans committed eight service errors. This inconstancy behind the line made it difficult for Troy to sustain any runs. App State held a narrow lead throughout the set, holding five-point advantages numerous times, which would be the final margin, as the Mountaineers won the match in straight sets.
