Men’s Tennis Advances to Semifinals of Auburn Tournament

AUBURN, Ala. – The Troy men's tennis team continued play at the Auburn Battle on the Plains and the Mercer Gridiron Classic, with the duo of Luciano Alcocer and Yeray Andres Pastor advancing to the semifinals of their draw before falling to Ole Miss.
The duo started the day by defeating Mercer, as Andres Pastor convincingly beat his singles opponent 6-2, 6-2 to send Troy to the semifinals. Although Ole Miss defeated the Trojans, the team made a strong run in the tournament.
In the consolation draw, Hiiro Sakamoto and Ausias Martin Melo continued play. Although the pair lost their match to UAB, the Trojans mounted a stunning comeback to down North Alabama.
After dropping the doubles match to the Lions, Troy swept the singles matches to take the victory. Martin Melo remained undefeated in singles play on the weekend with a 6-1, 6-4 victory.
Sakamoto had his back against the wall after dropping the first set 6-2 and going down 5-2 in the second but stormed back from multiple match points to claim a 2-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 victory.
In Macon, Ga., Thiago Drozdowski advanced to the semifinals of his flight with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Furman's Landon Ecarma. He fell in the semifinal but will play for third place on Sunday.
In doubles play, Drozdowski and Louis Boilevin won their first match of the weekend with a tightly contested 7-6 (7-4) win over a pairing from Furman.
Stephan Tavares Noale earned his first collegiate win in singles play with a dominant 6-2, 6-3 victory. He finished his day with another win, taking down Middle Georgia State's Alexander Achour in 6-1, 6-4 fashion.
