Troy-Arkansas State Face-Off in Jonesboro

TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's basketball program looks to get back into the win column Thursday night (Jan. 30) at 7 p.m. in the First National Bank Arena when it faces off against Arkansas State.
Both sides sit atop the Sun Belt Conference standings, with the Trojans winning seven of their last eight to sit 13-8, 7-2 SBC in a two-way tie for third, while the Red Wolves are on an eight-game win streak to sit alone in second at 12-7, 8-1 SBC. Troy has owned the series of last, winning 13 of the previous 14 meetings – the Trojans have defeated Arkansas State in the last four meetings in Jonesboro.

After rolling on a seven-game win streak, the Trojans fell in the Cajundome, 70-53, last Saturday. Troy did its job in the third quarter, shooting 50 percent from the field to outscore the Ragin' Cajuns 21-18. But Louisiana kept Troy to 30.5 percent on a season-low 18 makes from the field with 26 turnovers to hand over the loss.
Zay Dyer returned to Sun Belt Player of the Year form against Louisiana with her league-leading 11th double-double. She ended with 11 points and 19 rebounds, including 10 on the offensive end, to become the first Trojan since Tai'Sheka Porchia (ULM on Feb. 1, 2024) to have 10-plus offensive boards. She rose her season average in rebounds to 10.9, which ranks fifth in the country and leads the conference – Dyer also ranks fourth in Troy D-I single-season history.
Despite the loss, Briana Peguero extended her streak of double-digit scoring performances to seven with 10 points on two triples. She's averaged 2.6 makes from deep in the last eight games, going 21-of-38. She's also nearly perfect at the charity stripe, shooting the highest percentage (94.4) in program history. Emani Jenkins has followed Peguero from behind the arc with multiple triples in eight of her last nine games (22 total).
Over the last three games, Brianna Jackson has come to life on both sides of the ball, ending with 10-plus points for 12.6 per game. She's also consistently been one of the elite shot blockers in the league with 17 total blocks in the last 13 games – Jackson has rejected a shot in 11. Since she rejected the most shots (6) since Janeen Camp (8) in the season opener against Buffalo, she's averaged 1.29 per game for fourth in the SBC.

An eight-game win streak for Arkansas State has it seated one game behind James Madison in the Sun Belt standings. The Red Wolves' lone loss came to App State, 77-62, in the league opener. Since then, Arkansas State has defeated Marshall, Georgia Southern, Texas State, ULM twice, Louisiana twice and South Alabama for a combined margin of 555-467. Five of their eight straight wins came via double-digit while the other four came down to within five points.
The Red Wolves have taken a balanced approach to league play, with their top player averaging 11.3 points via Zyion Shannon. Meanwhile, nine of their 10 active players average 5-plus points. The 3-point game has been a staple of the Red Wolves as they limit the opposition to 24.6 percent from behind the arc for 3.7 makes in conference play.
