Troy Volleyball Falls to Texas A&M, 3-1

Madison, Wis. – The Troy volleyball team was firing on all cylinders in the first set, but Texas A&M rallied back in the next three sets to win 3-1 at the UW Field House on Sunday afternoon.
Troy (5-5) got good offensive production from Amiah Butler (15 kills) and Tori Hester (11 kills), but as a team hit just .102, while Texas A&M (9-1) hit .297 and got a match-high 16 kills from Logan Lednicky. The Aggies also had 13.0 blocks on 26 block assists, while the Trojans had 5.0 blocks.
Janelle Stuempfig, a native of Sussex, Wis., led Troy with 22 assists and had three kills of her own. Sara Bates had a team-high three aces for the Trojans. Maddie Waak had 43 assists for Texas A&M.
Set 1: Troy 25-22
The Aggies quickly jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the first set, before the Trojans went on a 9-3 run to take a 10-8 lead, a lead they did not relinquish for the remainder of the set. Tori Hester clinched the set win for the Trojans on a kill off a Jordan Sinneess set.
It was Troy's best offensive set, as they hit .125 (11-7-32) and held Texas A&M to .077 (14-11-39) hitting. Butler and Hester each had three kills in the frame. Stuempfig and Bates each added an ace in the set. On defense, Troy had four of its five blocks in the set.
Set 2: Texas A&M 25-14
Each team grabbed a couple points early in the second set, but with the score tied at 2-2, Texas A&M exploded on offense and didn't look back. The Aggies hit .696 (16-0-23) and got eight kills from Lednicky in the set. The Trojans hit .107 (10-7-28).
Set 3: Texas A&M 25-15
The third set was the worst offensive one for Troy, as the Trojans hit .000 (9-9-33). The defense for Troy held the Aggie offense in check, holding TAMU to .143 (7-4-21 hitting). Troy had a brief lead, as they were up 7-6, but the Aggies defense came alive, and the offense started to settle in.
Set 4: Texas A&M 25-18
In the fourth set, the Trojans started strong and quickly found itself up 4-1, but the Aggies settled in offensively and hit .393 (14-3-28). Troy battled back through the set but could never string together long enough runs to slow down the Aggies rhythm.
Butler had four kills in the final set.
