TROY, Ala. – Coming off a dominant and efficient week, Amiah Butler was named the Sun Belt Women's Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday morning.
Butler, an outside hitter, helped lead Troy to an undefeated week with 43 kills (4.3 k/s) on a .432 hitting percentage. Butler recorded 83 total attacks and committed just seven errors. She also had five service aces. It's Butler's first time being honored with a weekly Sun Belt award.
"Amiah had a terrific week. Her attacking efficiency was exceptional, and in addition to her offense from an attacking standpoint, she was really stable in passing," head coach Josh Lauer said. "It was probably the best serving in her career to this point. I am really happy for her and the performance that she put in this week to help our team to three victories. I appreciate the Sun Belt coaches for recognizing her efforts."
Butler helped fuel a Troy offense that went 3-0 on the week. On Tuesday against Alabama State, Butler had 11 kills while committing just two errors as the Trojans swept the Hornets. Butler opened the Troy Invitational on Thursday night with a strong showing of 16 kills with four errors on a .429 hitting percentage as the Trojans swept The Citadel. She capped off her impressive week with another 16 kill performance on Saturday in Troy's 3-1 win over Kennesaw State. She did so with impressive efficiency, as she committed just one error on 28 attempts for a season-best .536 hitting clip.
The strong week helped move Butler into third in the conference in kills with 109. She is also second in the SBC in kills per set with 3.89, and is only trailing her teammate Tori Hester who is sitting at 4.82.
This is Troy's second offensive player off the week honor of the season, as Hester won it after the opening weekend of play.
Troy returns to the court on Friday night as they travel to Madison, Wis., for a showdown against No. 7 Wisconsin, before taking on Texas A&M in Madison on Sunday. Friday's first serve is set for 7 p.m., with the match being broadcast on B1G+. Live stats will be available on TroyStats.com.
