TROY, Ala. – Former Troy basketball standout Emil Jones, who knocked down one of the biggest shots in program history, will be inducted into the Pearl River Community College Athletics Hall of Fame on July 26.
Jones spent his junior (2011-12) and senior (2012-13) seasons at Troy after transferring from PRCC. In the first game of his senior season and the first-ever basketball game at Trojan Arena, Jones knocked down the game-winning bucket with 1.6 seconds left to take down Mississippi State 56-53.
In his junior year, he averaged 9.6 points and 5.9 rebounds before scoring 11.4 points and grabbing 5.6 rebounds in his senior season. He logged over 31 minutes per game in his two-year stint with the Trojans while starting 55 of 61 games he appeared in.
At PRCC, Jones was a two-sport star. He was named the starting quarterback for the 2008 season and threw for 2,501 yards and 18 touchdowns while adding four more on the ground. He led the Wildcats to the MACCC title game and a record of 8-3. During his sophomore season, he once again stared at the quarterback spot, racking up 18 touchdown passes on 2,237 yards while rushing for six scores. Following his sophomore football season, Jones joined the basketball team for the 2009-10 campaign.
The team posted a 24-5 record that included a remarkable 20-game winning streak that was capped off by winning the MACCC title. After his sophomore season, he received offers to play football at Memphis and Grambling State but decided to return to Pearl River to pursue basketball. Before the 2010-11 season began, Troy offered Jones a scholarship starting in the 2011-12 season. His final year at PRCC saw him lead the team in points with 18.3 and rebounds with 7.9. He was named All-MACJC and All-Region 23.
Jones now resides in Hattiesburg, Miss., and is the head boys' basketball coach and an assistant football coach at North Forrest. He is married to Shy, and they have three kids: A'Myah, Zoe and Emil III.
The induction ceremony will take place at the Hollywood Casino & Resort in Bay St. Louis.
