TROY, Ala. – After a historic season in 2023 that saw the Troy volleyball team win a program-record 12 Sun Belt Conference matches, head coach Josh Lauer announced a challenging 2024 schedule on Thursday afternoon.
"Our 2024 schedule is extremely competitive once again. Each year, we work to create a schedule that will best prepare our team to compete for a Sun Belt championship, and that means playing teams inside the top 50 during non-conference play," Lauer said. "We also want to provide our team with the best competitive experiences possible and that includes great traditional rivalry matches with the likes of Jacksonville State, Alabama State and Kennesaw State. It also includes playing on the road in front of some great volleyball crowds at both LSU and Wisconsin."
The Trojans' non-conference schedule is gearing up to be one of the more difficult slates in the country and is highlighted by a Friday night showdown against 2023 Final Four participant Wisconsin and matchups against Texas A&M and Auburn, two teams who also made the NCAA Tournament.
Trojan Arena will play host to 12 matches this season, including three non-conference matchups, while Troy hits the road for 15 matches. In total, the Trojans will play seven matches against teams who qualified for the 2023 Division I Women's Volleyball Championship.
After an exhibition match on the road against Jacksonville State on Aug. 17, Troy will open the season in Baton Rouge, La., with a pair of games on Friday, Aug. 30 against Maryland and New Hampshire before playing host school LSU on Saturday, Aug. 31. Troy returns to Alabama for a Tuesday night contest at Auburn (Sept. 3).
The Trojan's home opener comes on Sept. 7 against Cal Poly before they travel up to Montgomery for their last mid-week match of the year as they take on Alabama State (Sept. 10). The Trojans return home to host the Troy Invitational, which will welcome Citadel and Kennesaw State to Trojan Arena. Troy will battle Citadel on Thursday, Sept. 12 and Kennesaw State on Saturday, Sept. 14.
The final non-conference week of the season sends the Trojans to Madison, Wisc., to battle against Wisconsin on Friday, Sept. 20 and Texas A&M on Sunday, Sept. 22.
Sun Belt play opens with the Trojans hosting in-state rival South Alabama at Trojan Arena on Sept. 26-27. Also visiting Troy this season will be Louisiana (Oct. 18-19), ULM (Oct. 31 and Nov. 1) and App State (Nov. 14-15).
Troy will travel to Texas State (Oct. 4-5), Georgia Southern (Oct. 10-11), Arkansas State (Oct. 24-25) and Southern Miss (Nov. 7-8).
The Trojans had a combined record of 11-4 against its 2024 Sun Belt opponents in the 2023 campaign.
The Sun Belt Tournament will once again be held in Foley, Ala., from Nov. 20-24.
