TROY, Ala. – Sophomore catcher Brooks Bryan has officially accepted an invitation to the 2024 USA Baseball Collegiate National Training Camp, joining a 56-man roster of non-draft eligible players.
"Brooks has earned the right to wear the USA uniform with his performance this year," head coach Skylar Meade said. "It is the highest honor you can have as an underclassman in college baseball, and I sure, like always, Brooks will rise to the challenge."
The USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Training Camp will feature 56 of the premier non-draft-eligible college players for a two-game Stars vs. Stripes intrasquad series in North Carolina on June 26 and 27. USA Baseball will name the final Collegiate National Team–inclusive of an International Friendship Series roster and a Summer League Tour roster–following Training Camp on June 29.
Bryan became Troy's 'RBI King' in game two against Texas State on an eight-pitch battle for a full-count walk with the bases loaded to bring home Peyton Watts – broke Joey Denison's record set in 2018, which included an NCAA Regional appearance. No. 17 finished with 85 RBIs to rank fourth in the nation and second in Sun Belt Conference, posting a team-high 22 multi-RBI games with 14 at 3-plus and eight at 4-plus – peaked with a seven RBI game against Jacksonville State on a 4-for-6 performance, two homers and two runs. He also finished with 15 multi-hit games – had four at three-plus.
A native of Opelika, Bryan had a team-high 18 home runs, including one in round two of the SBC Tournament against App State. Bryan started in 56 of 58 games played in four different positions (28 C, 9 LF, 12 RF, 7 DH) for a .989 fielding percentage with 268 chances, 245 putouts and 22 assists – also made three double plays. The sophomore also finished 2024 ranked 74th in the country for homers (17) and 43rd in sac flies (6). At 6-2, Bryan had a 14-game RBI streak that spanned from April 13 through May 4. During that streak, he had 30 RBIs. He finished the season with a team-high .589 slugging percentage, a .279 batting average and a .381 on-base percentage.
Both Training Camp games will be played at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C., on June 26 and 27. First pitch of both games will be at 5:35 p.m. The International Friendship Series roster will then take on Chinese Taipei in a five-game series, while the Summer League Tour roster will take on select teams from the Appalachian League and the Coastal Plain League in a four-game slate. The schedule will culminate with a Fourth of July matchup between the two U.S. Collegiate National Team rosters on July 4 in Fayetteville, N.C.
