TROY, Ala. – Troy's 'RBI King' Brooks Bryan was announced Monday afternoon by USA Baseball as one of the 25 semifinalists among 20 different schools for the 2024 Golden Spikes Award.
"What a great accomplishment to have another Trojan being named semifinalist for the Golden Spikes award," head coach Skylar Meade said. "Two years in a row, with Shane in 2023 and now Brooks Bryan. Brooks has earned this through his work with the bat, behind the dish and his leadership on and off the field. I'm very proud of Brooks, and excited to see him and the rest of the Trojans get to work at 9 a.m., Wednesday morning."
Bryan broke Troy's RBI record of 81 in game two against Texas State with an eight-pitch battle that resulted in a full-count walk, bringing in Peyton Watts with the bases loaded for his 82nd – broke Joey Denison's record set in 2018, which included an NCAA Regional appearance. He's started 52 games for Troy in four different positions (25 C, 9 LF, 12 RF, 7 DH and has 21 multi-RBI games – includes eight with four or more and a seven RBI performance against Jacksonville State, with four hits, two runs and a homer.
The Alabama native also leads the Trojans in homers at 17, tied for third in the Sun Belt Conference and 84th in the country, and slugging percentage (.599). Of his 59 hits, 29 have gone for extra bases with 10 doubles, two triples and 17 home runs. Primarily a catcher, Bryan also has 15 multi-hit games with four with three-plus. Bryan had a 14-game RBI streak that spanned from April 13 through May 4. During that streak, he had 30 RBIs. On the defensive side, Bryan has a .996 fielding percentage on 236 chances, 216 putouts, 19 assists and just one error.
Golden Spikes Award semifinalists now leave their fate up to the fans as voting opens today and goes until June 3, when the finalists will be announced.
