Troy Baseball Celebrates Senior Weekend by Inviting James Madison for Regular Season Series Finale

TROY, Ala. – The Troy baseball regular season comes to its conclusion with a three-game series against James Madison (Thursday – Saturday), where the program looks to rise to the No. 2 seed for the Sun Belt Conference Tournament and celebrate 18 seniors taking Riddle-Pace Field for the final time.

With a spot clinched in the SBC Tournament after a weekend series against Texas State, the Trojans (35-18, 17-10 SBC) can rise to second or fall to sixth – currently sits third, two games above JMU and 1.5 above App State. The weekend also marks the celebration of 18 seniors (Ethan Kavanagh, Tremayne Cobb Jr., Lance Gardiner, Kole Myers, Kyle Mock, Aidan Gilroy, Logan Ross, Ryan Pettys, Ben Arnett, Jayden Sloan, Will Butcher, Blake Sutton, Michael Osmond, Clete Hartzog, Matt Mercer, Noah Manning, Kristian Asbury, Beau Fletcher).
Troy looks to bounce back from its first series loss since Southern Miss back on March 28-30. Game one saw a 6-0 loss before rattling off a five-run inning in the seventh to win 5-3 in game two and falling on a two-run walk-off homer in the 11th for the finale. Mikey Bello came in for game two and took over with the highest batting average on the weekend (.600), a team-high two runs, three hits and a .800 slugging percentage.
Brooks Bryan made history in game two as he battled eight pitches with the bases loaded to earn a full-count walk. The walk pushed No. 17 into his 82nd RBI to overtake Joey Denison for the most RBIs in a single season at Troy. In 2024, Bryan has 21 multi-RBI games with 29 extra-base hits, 17 home runs and 123 total bases – also ranks third nationally in RBIs.
Three games remain for the Trojans, and with its 35th victory in game two of the Texas State series, they claimed the first consecutive 35-plus win seasons since 2010-11. They've captured that via the most walks in the nation at 342 and the highest on-base percentage in the SBC at .426 – also leads the league in runs (474) and sac flies (33). Individually, Luke Lyon (8-2) dominates the mound with the most victories in the league at eight and the fifth-best WHIP at 1.17.
James Madison (30-20, 15-12 SBC) rides two straight series victories over Arkansas State and Marshall into the weekend, dominating two of the three bottom teams in the SBC in four of the six games by a combined margin of 39-33.
