TROY, Ala. – Troy senior first baseman Will Butcher added another honor to his resume Tuesday as he was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week one day after taking home DI Baseball National Player of the Week honors.
Butcher recorded nation-leading 15 RBIs and belted an NCAA-best six doubles in Troy's opening series. He drove in nine runs in Troy's game two victory over SIU-Edwardsville, the most by a Trojan hitter since Edgar Ramirez drove in nine in 2006 against Texas A&M Corpus Christi and the second most in program history.
An offseason transfer from Charlotte, Butcher was 9-of-16 from the plate for the Trojans over the weekend as he finished with a 1.744 OPS, thanks to his six doubles plus a grand slam in Sunday's finale.
After going 1-for-6 in the opener, Butcher hit safely in eight of his next 10 at-bats, with five doubles and the grand slam.
His nine hits during the weekend rank as the seventh most in the country, while his 18 total bases are the 10th most (tied with teammate Kole Myers).
Troy travels to Florida A&M on Tuesday for a 3 p.m. contest before returning home to host Harvard over the weekend.
