Â
TROY, Ala. – Troy senior closer Noah Manning has been named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Watch List, the NCBWA announced Wednesday.
Â
A preseason All-American and All-Sun Belt selection, Manning, a senior, was one of the nation's elite closers in 2023, finishing the season ranked 14th in the country and first in the Sun Belt with 11 saves, just one off a Troy single-season record. A native of Minooka, Ill., Manning led the Sun Belt and ranked eighth nationally with 34 total appearances, with 33 coming out of the bullpen.Â
Â
Better known as "The Ringer," Manning dominated down the stretch, holding opponents without an earned run in 10 of his final 11 appearances, pitching to a 1.42 ERA. He opened the season allowing an earned run in just three of his first 13 appearances, pitching to a 2.20 ERA.
Â
Manning had the sharpest sinker in the country last year, averaging 20 inches of horizontal run on his fastball, with only 27 percent of his glove-side fastballs being swung at by right-handed batters.
Â
Troy, coming off a 40-win season and appearance in the NCAA Tournament, opens its season with a four-game series against SIU-Edwardsville at Riddle-Pace Field this weekend.Â
