The Trojans had dropped its last three conference matches going into last weekend, and desperately needed a pair of wins. It was Troy's first conference series sweep since it swept South Alabama to open conference play in Trojan Arena.
Troy continued to get remarkable offensive production from star outside hitter Tori Hester, who finished the weekend with 30 kills and 5.00 kills per set, both of which were third-most in the conference. She also extended her streak of double-digit kills to 44 matches, which remains the longest active known streak in Division I women's volleyball. After her strong weekend, she sits just 53 kills away from becoming the program's all-time leader in kills, surpassing the 1,671 set by Cheyenne Hayes. She sits at 388 this season and leads the Sun Belt.
Offensive efficiency was key for the Trojans against ULM, as they hit .353 on Thursday and .327 on Friday. The only two-match stretch that was more efficient this season was when Troy hit .353 and .389 in back-to-back matches against Alabama State and The Citadel.
In addition to Hester's strong performance, freshman Kalina Calvillo remains a staple of the Troy hitting game as she finished the weekend with 25 kills on an absurd (25-3-50) hitting clip.
Janelle Stuempfig had a dominant weekend at the setter's position, as she was a key reason for the Trojan's offensive success. She tied her season-high in assists with 38 in Thursday's win and had 27 on Friday. In the second match against ULM, she recorded her third double-double of the season after picking up 10 digs. Stuempfig also finished the week with 6 kills on nine attempts.
On defense, Ella Broadhead led Troy with eight blocks in the series. Her 1.33 blocks per set was tied for third in the conference last week. She leads Troy this season with 49 blocks.
