TROY, Ala. – In conjunction with its annual Men's Basketball Letterwinners Day, Troy Athletics will honor two of the greatest teams in program history on Saturday, Feb. 1, when the Trojans take on ULM. In attendance will be the 1999-00 and the 2009-2010 teams, along with some of the best players to ever don a Troy uniform.
"It's always so exciting to welcome back former Trojans and their families who have helped pave the way for this program," head coach Scott Cross said. "I look forward to welcoming and celebrating all the players who have helped create the standard of excellence that we strive to uphold in our program, especially the 1999-00 and 2009-10 regular season conference champion teams. It's a great opportunity for our players to learn what it means to be a Trojan."
The Trojans are celebrating the 25th anniversary of the 1999-00 team, who were the Atlantic Sun Regular Season Champions. Troy put together an impressive 17-11 (13-5) record and were led by Detric Golden and his conference-best 17.6 points per game. He was named the ASUN Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year. Matt Holman (12.6) and Tote Christopher (11.9) also averaged double figure scoring for the Trojans.
The 2009-2010 team posted a 20-13 (13-5) record en route to becoming the Sun Belt East Division Champions. The Trojans closed out the regular season winning eight of its last nine games, including the final five. The Trojans went against Ole Miss in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament. Brandon Hazzard led Troy with 16.7 points.
Both of the championship teams were led by legendary head coach Don Maestri, who is Troy's all-time winningest coach with 501 career victories over the course of 31 seasons.
All returning basketball letterwinners can receive complimentary tickets to the game and are invited to join their fellow letterwinners on Trojan Terrace, where refreshments will be provided.
