Troy Volleyball Sweep ULM, 3-0

TROY, Ala. – The Troy volleyball team capped off a perfect week with a 3-0 win over ULM on Friday night at Trojan Arena.
Troy (10-12, 5-7 SBC) needed a pair of wins coming into Thursday and Friday's matches, and it will enter the university's homecoming weekend having done just that. ULM (4-20, 0-12 SBC) had no answer for the Trojan offense who was dominant on Friday night. Troy hit .327 (42-6-110) after hitting .353 last on Thursday.
The Trojans got another really strong performance from Kalina Calivllo, who had 12 kills and one error on 26 attempts for a .423 hitting percentage. She finished the two-match series with a .440 (25-3-50) hitting clip, by far the best two-match performance of the freshman's young career.
Tori Hester also had an impressive showing, as she extender her double-digit kill streak to 44 matches, the longest active streak in Division I women's volleyball. She finished the night with 11 kills on 39 attempts. She is now just 53 kills off the program record set by Cheyenne Hayes (1,671). Amiah Butler had nine kills on the night, and on the final point of the first set she recorded the 1,000th kill of her career.
On defense, Troy won the blocking battle 9-2 and got four blocks from Ella Broadhead and Sydney Austin. Jaci Mesa led Troy with 15 digs, while Janelle Stuempfig had 10 to pair with her 27 assists for her third double-double of the year.
Stuempfig led all players with 27 assists, and was a key reason the Trojan offense was so efficient. The Trojans also beat the Warhawks in the service battle, recording six aces compared to their five. Caroline Darracott and Hester each had two.
Set 1: Troy 25-14
The first set was all Troy, as the Trojans never trailed, and the score was tied just once (1-1). The Trojans took a 15-10 lead into the media timeout and came out of the break on a 6-0 run to essentially put the set away. A kill by Butler, who hit 1.000 (4-0-4) in the set, was the deciding point.
Calvillo had five kills to lead the Trojans, while Austin and Hester each had three.
Set 2: Troy 25-18
The closest set of the match saw the Trojans trail just once, and it was when Troy opened the set with a service error. Going into the media timeout, Troy led 15-7. ULM was more competitive in the frame than the first set, but the Trojans lead was never at jeopardy. The Trojans took the 2-0 match lead on a kill by Broadhead that was set up by Jordan Sinness.
The Trojans hit .333 (13-1-36) in the set and got a team-high four kills from Hester, while Calvillo and Stuempfig had three each. Stuempfig finished her night with four kills on six attempts.
Set 3: Troy 25-16
The first half of set three was the most competitive of the match as Troy was leading 12-10 when head coach Josh Lauer used a timeout. The Warhawks won the point coming out of the break to make it 12-11, but the Trojans offense got back in rhythm and went on a 6-2 run to improve get back to a comfortable lead.
An attacking error by ULM gave Troy the point, set and match. It was the worst offensive set for Troy, but it still hit .316 (14-2-38). Butler, Calvillo and Hester each had four kills in the frame.
