Troy Volleyball Swept by Texas State

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Troy volleyball picked up its first conference loss of the season on Friday night, as Texas State swept the Trojans, 3-0, at Strahan Arena.
Troy (7-6, 2-1 SBC) scored 20 or more points in all three sets but couldn't slow down the high-powered Texas State (9-5, 3-0 SBC) offense. Troy had just one middle hitter – Ella Broadhead – available to play, and the Bobcats took advantage of that as they hit .311 (40-12-90).
The Trojans hit well in the first set but finished the night with a .151 (36-20-106) hitting clip. On defense, Troy had two blocks as a team. Jordan Sinness had two total blocks – her Troy career-high – while Amiah Butler and Kalina Calvillo each had one. The Bobcats finished the night with 11 team blocks. Jade Defraeye had a match-high seven.
On offense, Tori Hester had a match-high 18 kills on .125 (18-12-48) hitting. She has now registered ten or more kills in 35 consecutive matches. Hester moves into fifth in program history with 1,453 kills. She entered the night tied with former teammate Julia Brooks at 1,435 and passed Meghan Gilroy who had 1,447 in her career.
Butler finished with nine kills, which puts her over 900 career kills. She entered the night with 892 kills. Calvillo, a native of San Antonio, Texas, had six kills for Troy. Sinness led with 17 assists, while Janelle Stuempfig had 16 and two kills.
Samantha Wunsch had a team-high 15 kills and five blocks for Texas State.
Set 1: Texas State 25-23
The first set was the closest of the match. The two teams traded points for the first half of the set, and with the score tied 13-13, the Trojans went on a 4-0 run to take a 17-13 lead, it's largest of the night. Troy was also the first time to 20 points in the set, as it led 20-17. The Texas State offense caught fire and closed the set on an 8-3 run to win the set. A kill by Ryann Torres gave the Bobcats the early 1-0 lead.
Texas State hit .353 (16-4-34) in the frame, it's best offensive set for the Bobcats. Troy also had its best offensive set in the first frame as it hit .282 (16-5-39). Hester had eight of her 18 kills in the first set.
Set 2: Texas State 25-20
The second set was the worst offensive one for Troy, as it hit -.036 (8-9-28). Like the first set, it was close for most of it, as Texas State led 21-20 before going on a 4-1 run to close it out and take the 2-0 lead. A kill by Defraeye clinched the set win.
Texas State hit .231 (11-5-26).
Set 3: Texas State 25-21
The Troy offense rebounded in the third set, as it hit .154 (12-6-39). It wasn't enough to jump ahead of Texas State who hit .290 (13-4-31). The Trojans led 15-13 at the media timeout, but the Bobcat offense found its groove, and went on a 7-1 run to take a 20-16 lead and control of the set. Troy battled back, and cut the Texas State lead down to one, but it wasn't enough as Defraeye clinched the match with a kill.
The Trojans had leads in all three sets but could never hold on.
