Troy Women’s Basketball Looks to Carry Momentum to Conway

CONWAY, S.C. – Troy women's basketball looks to carry its momentum from the first road win of 2023-24 into the HTC Center when the program takes on Coastal Carolina at noon on Saturday.
Parody in the Sun Belt Conference on Thursday puts the Trojans (4-8, 1-1 SBC) in a 10-way tie for third in the standings as they look to avenge last season's 99-97 loss to the Chanticleers (7-8, 1-1 SBC).

First Conference Victory
Porchia iced Georgia Southern with 0:06 to propel the Trojans to a 74-71 victory over Georgia Southern to push head coach Chanda Rigby's record to 18-1 against the Soaring Eagles. She led Troy with 24 points on 9-of-13 from the field and seven rebounds.
Troy took its second quarter, where it outscored Georgia Southern 25-8 and carried the momentum until a late run in the fourth from Terren Ward. However, Troy managed to outrebound the No. 1-ranked rebounding team in the nation 57-50 and limit them to a season-low 32.9 percent from the field to secure the victory.
Outside of Porchia, Makayia Hallmon and Nia Daniel produced double figures with 16 and 12, respectively. Shaulana Wagner exploded outside the score column, leading the team with a career-high eight rebounds and eight assists while swiping away three steals. Additionally, Zay Dyer managed a career-high 15 rebounds off the bench – includes a team-high four offensive boards.
After zero 20-plus point performances by a Trojan to start the season, Porchia's 24 marked the fourth straight game with such a performance – Hollings (27 against Georgia State), Hallmon (30 against New Mexico State) and Daniel (21 against SFA). With back-to-back 55-plus rebound performances, Troy jumped to 31st in the nation in total rebounds, averaging 42.9 per game.
Keeping it Conway
Coastal Carolina comes off its first conference win of 2023-24 when it blew out Southern Miss 88-71 in the HTC Center on Wednesday. The Chanticleers took off from the tip and outscored the Golden Eagles 29-14 in the first quarter to take control of the game.
The only quarter the Chanticleers didn't outscore Southern Miss was the second, getting outscored 21-18, but it wasn't nearly enough. Makaila Cange (22) and Arin Freeman (21) produced 20-plus points as Cange also grabbed 11 rebounds for a double-double.
Despite not being in the starting lineup, Coastal's leading scorer, Deaja Richardson, still managed 17 points on 6-of-11 from the field. Richardson ranks seventh in the conference and 112th in the nation in scoring, with 16 points per game. Meanwhile, Cange's double-double against Southern Miss wasn't unusual as she ranks 42ndin the country and second in the Sun Belt with five.
