Troy Women's Basketball, ULM Put Win Streaks on the Line Thursday Night

TROY, Ala. – Led by the Sun Belt Player of the Week, Tai'Sheka Porchia, Troy women's basketball heads to Fant-Ewing Coliseum to battle ULM on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. where both sides put their respective win streaks on the line.
The Trojans (11-8, 8-1 SBC) ride the fourth-longest win streak in program history of eight while the Warhawks (15-5, 7-2 SBC) sit with six straight in the 30th meeting between the two. Troy also rides a 10-game win streak over the Warhawks.

Perfect Month
January was a perfect month for the Trojans as they swept the month, going 8-0 with Porchia leading the team with 19.5 points and 9.1 rebounds. Makayia Hallmon (16.9), Ja'Mia Hollings (13) and Nia Daniel (12.3) also averaged double-figures, with Hollings also rebounding 10.1 per game for a double-double.
Troy ended the month with wins over Southern Miss (77-70) and Arkansas State (91-84) to move above .500 in Trojan Arena while breaking the single-game attendance record. Porchia claimed player of the week for the league, putting up 30 points on 54.8 percent shooting and 12 rebounds to boost. She even managed team-highs in points (35), rebounds (17), field goals made (15) and free throws made (9).
Thursday's victory over Southern Miss came in the first quarter when Sharonica Hartsfield exploded to end the quarter, scoring six points in the final 2:31 to push Troy's advantage to seven, 16-9. From there, 25 points from Porchia and a 12-point, 15-rebound double-double from Hollings held that advantage to the first-ever win over USM.
The month closed in front of the largest women's basketball crowd in Trojan Arena history (4,211), where fans were treated to an overtime thriller. Porchia had the best performance by a Trojan in 2023-24 with 35 points on 15 made field goals and 17 rebounds. Add in the heroics by Hallmon, who had 11 points and three triples in overtime, and the Trojans safely swept the weekend.

Like Troy, ULM rides a six-game winning streak into Thursday night, defeating South Alabama, Texas State, Louisiana, Southern Miss, Arkansas State, and Coastal Carolina. The Warhawks' most recent win came in a nailbiter, 71-68, against the Chanticleers, where they overcame a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit to win.
Jakayla Johnson shined in the victory with a game-high 31 points, including her second triple of the evening to tie the game 64-64 in the final minute. Sania Wells joined her in the heroics with the go-ahead 3-pointer with under 30 seconds – finished with 15 points, seven rebounds and two steals. Overall, the Warhawks survived a 28 percent shooting night in the first 30 minutes for the victory.
Since SBC play started, the Warhawks' defense has held their opponents to the lowest field goal percentage at 37.5. They also dominate the 3-point line, shooting 36.5 percent for nine made per game – both rank second in the SBC. Daisha Bradford is the team's scorer through 2023-24 as one of just four players to average 20-plus points at 20.3. She also shoots 39.8 percent to rank 10th in the conference and lead the Warhawks.
