Men’s Basketball Welcomes South Alabama to Trojan Arena

TROY, Ala. — Coming off a big win on Wednesday night against Texas State, the Troy men's basketball teams welcomes in-state rival South Alabama for an afternoon showdown on Saturday in Trojan Arena.
The game is part of a doubleheader, and will follow the women's basketball game that is starting at 2 p.m.
Troy picked up its 12th win of the season on Wednesday, as it took down Texas State 78-65. The Trojans got a big performance from freshman forward Myles Rigsby, who tied his career-high in points with 20 and grabbed nine rebounds.
South Alabama took on ULM in Monroe, La., on Thursday night and fell 80-66.
The Trojans and Jaguars met last Thursday in Mobile, with South Alabama squeaking out a 74-71 win. South Alabama leads the all-time series 30-13.
Troy has won its last two games in Trojan Arena against South Alabama.

In the first meeting between these two teams earlier in the month, the Trojans struggled to get the necessary stops down the stretch to jump out in front. The loss snapped Troy's six game winning streak and undefeated start to conference play, and was the team's first loss in nearly a month.
Christyon Eugene led Troy with 18 points and five rebounds in the loss. The Trojans struggled shooting the ball night and made just 36.5 percent of its shots. South Alabama shot 47.2 percent from the field.
South Alabama had four of its seven players who appeared in the game score in double-figures.
Sticking to its Strengths
In Troy's win over Texas State, the Trojans continued to do what has brought them success this season. They shot the ball well – 54.2 percent from the field – and played impressive team defense that resulted in 15 turnovers for the Bobcats.
The first ten minutes of the game saw the two teams trading buckets and going back and forth, but Troy's offense ended the half on a 21-12 run that gave them a five-point lead at the break. Troy is 10-2 on the season when taking a lead into halftime, including 4-1 in conference play.
The Trojans also out-rebounded Texas State 29-28. It's Troy's 15th time this season outrebounding the opponent. Troy is 4-1 in conference play when it does so.
Eugene continues to lead the way offensively for Troy this season. He is averaging a team-high 15.7 points this season on 48.6 percent shooting, including 43.8 percent from 3-point range. Eugene is also tied with Thomas Dowd for first on the team in rebounding with 5.2 boards a game.
Scouting South Alabama
Guard Isaiah Gaiter leads the Jaguars in scoring with 16.4 points per game on 48 percent shooting. Gaiter had 13 points last time out against Troy.
Tyrell Jones and Maxwell Land are also both scoring in double-figures this season.
The South Alabama defense is giving up the third-highest opponent field goal percentage in the conference at 45.5 percent. It's also allowing the fifth most points per game in the Sun Belt at 77.3.
