Hold Off the Bobcats
Troy captured its fifth straight victory with the team's seventh straight win over the Bobcats and third straight on the road, 92-85, to remain in a two-way tie for second in the conference.
A slow 9-0 start in the first 2:06 was flipped to a 13-9 lead with 4:55 remaining in the first. The Trojans rode that lead to the fourth when they peaked at 16 off a Tai'Sheka Porchia tip-in with 6:11 left in the game. Texas State roared back to cut it to five, but Shaulana Wagner and Ja'Mia Hollings nailed their clutch free throws late to hold onto the win.
Over the last five games, Troy's rebounding numbers continue to rise as the program ranks third in the conference and 13th in the nation with 44.38 per game. Individually, Hollings and Porchia rank in the top 15 in the league at seventh (7.6) and 11th (7.3), respectively.
It will only be 10 days since both teams played in Trojan Arena and the Trojans broke a program record for largest margin of victory in an SBC game at 46, 90-44. After being down in the first, 13-11, Troy would outscore ULL 79-31 on a 17-point, 10-rebound performance in just 23 minutes by Porchia.
First Sweep of 2024?
Louisiana fell to 2-4 in conference play after a tough 65-59 loss to ULM, falling to 3-5 in the Cajundome. The Warhawks jumped to a 20-9 advantage through the first 10 minutes and held on until the end.
Destiny Rice and Tamera Johnson combined for 30 points on 11-of-19 from the field, but they couldn't overcome the first quarter as they allowed ULM to shoot 41.5 percent from the field and win the rebound battle 38-33.
The Ragin' Cajuns continue to front the SBC in turnovers per game as they limit their numbers to 14.9 to rank fourth. They also remain among the top half as deep threats, with a 32.1 percent clip to rank sixth. On the defensive side, they match it with an opposing 3-point percentage of 28.9.
