Men’s Basketball Heads to Southern Miss for Afternoon Showdown

TROY, Ala. – Following a tough loss on Thursday night, Troy men's basketball wraps up its two-game road trip on Saturday afternoon in Hattiesburg, Miss., as it takes on Southern Miss for the second time in three games.
Troy is coming off a 74-71 loss at South Alabama on Thursday night. Christyon Eugene had another strong offensive performance, scoring a team-high 18 points. He has scored in double figures in 15 games this season and is averaging a team-high 15.4 points per game.
Myles Rigsby notched his first career double-double, as he scored 11 points and grabbed a career-high ten rebounds.
The Trojans struggled to get the necessary defensive stops down the stretch and shot just 36.5 percent from the field.
Southern Miss is coming off a 69-66 win over Louisiana on Wednesday night.
The two teams played in Troy last Saturday, with the Trojans coming out victorious 82-56. Southern Miss leads the all-time series 15-2.

Time to Bounce Back
After getting off to its best conference start (5-0) since the 2003-04 season and its best Sun Belt start, Troy looks to get back into the win column on Saturday. The Trojans picked up its most dominant conference victory since it joined the Sun Belt when the teams met last Saturday in Troy.
For the Trojans to find success, they'll continue to rely on their ability to create havoc on the defensive end of the court. The Trojans are forcing 15.8 turnovers per game which is second in the Sun Belt and 20th nationally.
Conerway had a career-high five steals on Thursday night.
When Troy has had success this season, they have won the paint battle. Jackson Fields has nine blocks in his last three games, including a career-high five on Thursday night. Fields also led the team in scoring with 13 points against Southern Miss last Saturday.
The Trojans continue to be one of the best rebounding teams in the country, as they are averaging 40.6 rebounds per game. That number is the 26th best in the country and third in the Sun Belt. Troy is also averaging 14.5 offensive rebounds per game, far and away the best in the conference and ninth nationally.
Scouting Southern Miss
The Golden Eagles squeaked out a 66-63 win over Arkansas State at home on Wednesday night. Austin Crowley had a game-high 25 points and is averaging 16.1 points per game. Crowley was named the Sun Belt Preseason Player of the Year and to the Preseason All-Sun Belt First Team with Eugene.
Southern Miss has won four of its last five games, with the only loss coming to Troy. The Golden Eagles' last win over the Trojans came on Feb. 2, 2023, at Troy. They defeated the Trojans 74-65.
