Troy Volleyball Cruises Past Louisiana in Sun Belt Conference Opener

LAFAYETTE, La.– Troy volleyball cruised past Louisiana in the Sun Belt Conference opener with a 3-0 sweep Thursday night in the Earl K. Long Gym.
The Trojans (3-8, 1-0 SBC) took the match in straight sets, 25-18, 25-20 and 25-19. Julia Brooks and Tori Hester led the Trojans with 12 kills each. Brooks returned to the net to rack up four blocks, while Hester picked up a pair of aces and eight digs.
Troy took command of the match early on with an ace from Caroline Darracott and a kill from Amiah Butler to take a 13-5 lead. Troy tallied 34 kills, with 13 in the third set and six aces.
Defensively, Jaci Mesa led the way with 13 digs and an ace. The squad racked up a season-high of 14 blocks opposed to the Ragin' Cajuns' six. Janelle Stuempfig dished out 29 of the Trojans' 33 assists.
Louisiana (9-6, 0-1) was led by Kara Barnes, who tallied eight kills and Cami Hicks with six kills. Madi Fritz added 21 assists with three digs. The Ragin' Cajuns combined for 33 kills and 30 digs.
