2022-23 Troy Athletics Year in Review
TROY, Ala. – Troy Athletics is coming off one of its most successful years in program history behind football's Sun Belt Championship, 10-of-11 programs posting a winning record, five programs advancing to the postseason and the Trojans finished as one of just two schools to win at least 12 football games, 20 men's basketball games and 40 baseball games.
"The 2022-23 year for Troy University athletics was highlighted by overall program consistency and a remarkable turnaround for our football program," Troy Chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins Jr., said. "We are one of the most competitive programs in the Sun Belt Conference, as 10 of our 11 team sports posted winning records. We delve into these stories and much more inside these pages. The picture that emerges is one of an athletics program destined for great things. Please read this report carefully, and please continue to support Troy University athletics with your attendance and investment. We can't do it without you."
On the field, Troy Baseball returned to the NCAA Regionals for the first time since 2018 under second-year head coach Skylar Meade and defeated Boston College in the opening round of NCAA play. Volleyball hosted the NIVC for the second straight year as they made their third consecutive appearance in the postseason event, while the men's golf team earned a berth in the inaugural National Golf Invitational and sophomore Brantley Scott played in the NCAA Regionals as an individual. Capping off the successful year was four track & field student-athletes representing Troy in the NCAA Outdoor Preliminary Meet.
"As we look back on the 2022-2023 athletic year, I am incredibly thankful for the amazing support we have from our great university and university administration led by Chancellor Jack Hawkins Jr., and his tireless support of our student-athletes, coaches and staff," Director of Athletics Brent Jones said. "Our fans showed up in record numbers throughout the year, and our student-athletes also won in the community and the classroom. Collectively, our student-athletes produced the most community service hours in program history and accomplished the second-highest collective GPA on record. All of this shows that you can truly be proud of the success accomplished by our student-athletes and coaches as they proudly represent Troy University."
In addition to the success on the field, Troy Athletics also enjoyed unprecedented levels of achievement when it came to fundraising, sponsorship revenue, licensing revenue, community service hours, plus attendance and ticket sales for football, men's basketball and women's basketball.
A record 179,628 fans packed The Vet for the 2022 football season, including a single-game record 31,010 for Troy's thrilling victory over Army. In Trojan Arena, men's basketball attendance increased by 9.2 percent and women's basketball saw a remarkable 25.5 percent increase in per-game attendance. While at Riddle-Pace Field, Troy posted its second-highest attended season despite the ongoing construction of the facility.
Additionally, Troy Athletics also partnered with the Troy University IDEA Bank to spur NIL efforts for student-athletes while extending deals with adidas and LEARFIELD Amplify.
