TROY, Ala. – A pair of Troy track & field student-athletes will compete this weekend on the national level, with Javon Osbourne participating in the JAAA/Puma Junior & Senior Championships, while Jasai Taylor is set to take part in the USATF U20 Outdoor Championship.
"Javon had a great season that is still going," Troy Director of Track & Field Marc Davis said. "Track is the national sport of Jamaica, so for Javon to compete at the Jamaican Championships is a huge deal, and we are very proud of him. For him to perform on his country's biggest stage is something that he has dreamed of for a long time. Jasai will be competing among the country's best in the men's 400m hurdles, and we are very excited and proud for him to earn this opportunity. The fact that the USATF U20 Championships coincides with the USA Championships only adds to the excitement for the meet."
Osbourne will compete in both the discus and the shot put at the Jamaican Championships after competing in both events at the NCAA East Preliminary in May. The Clarendon, Jamaica, native held the most podium finishes of any Trojan this past season with five gold, three silver and one bronze performance and entered NCAA postseason competition ranked 13th and 25th in the region in the discus and shot put, respectively.
Taylor, a freshman from Killeen, Texas, took home a pair of first place finishes in the 400m hurdles during the season, winning at the UAB Spring Invite and the USF Challenge before running a personal best 53.69 at the Sun Belt Championship, where he finished just outside of scoring position.
