Troy traveled to Tuscaloosa in April and fell to the Crimson Tide 10-2. The Trojans are coming off a Sun Belt series victory over Georgia Southern, and Alabama enters Tuesday taking two of three from Vanderbilt over the weekend. Only 14 spots separate the two programs in RPI, with Alabama coming in at 18 and Troy at 32.
Trojan slugger Shane Lewis sits at 26 home runs this season, ranking second most nationally. He needs only one home run to become the leader for most home runs in a single season in Troy baseball history, and his 26 home runs are the most by a Sun Belt player since 2009. With 72 RBIs, Lewis is 10 away from holding the single-season record set in 2018 by Joey Denison.
Troy's pitching is also one of the tops in the country as they rank 10th in strikeouts per nine innings and second in the Sun Belt Conference. Averaging 10.8 per game, they are on pace to set a new program record. With 511 strikeouts thus far, it is the sixth most by a team in program history and 32 strikeouts away from having the most in a single season.
Four of the top 10 pitchers in the Sun Belt for batters struck out are Trojans. Grayson Stewart with 81 is in second, Ben Thompson with 78 sits in fifth, Zach Fruit with 69 is in ninth, and Brady Fuller rounds out the top 10 with 67.
