TROY, Ala - Troy University outfielder Shane Lewis has been named a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy; the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association announced Friday morning.
Â
The Trojan slugger has had a historic season thus far for Troy. Lewis sits at 26 home runs this season, ranking second most nationally and leading the Sun Belt Conference. He needs only one home run to become the leader for most home runs in a single season in Troy baseball history, and his 26 home runs are the most by a Sun Belt player since 2009. In addition, with 73 RBIs, Lewis is nine away from holding the single-season record set in 2018.
Â
The Vicksburg, Miss. native continues to be one of the nation's best offensive players. Starting in all 54 of the Trojans games this season, he is batting at a .310 clip with five doubles, two triples, and a team-high 60 runs scored. In addition, he leads the conference in slugging percentage (.775) and total bases (145).
Â
Lewis was named NCBWA national hitter of the week for his dominant performance against UAB and USC-Upstate earlier this season, where he hit a .615, going 8-13 at the plate with 14 RBIs, four home runs, and scored five runs.
Â
Lewis recorded eight RBIs with two home runs in game two against the Spartans. It was the first time since 2006 a Trojan recorded eight RBIs in a single game.
Â
This is the 36th year of the Dick Howser Trophy. The finalists will be announced on Thursday, June 8. The 2023 award will be presented at Charles Schwab Field in downtown Omaha, the home of the College World Series for the 11th year. The winner will be unveiled on MLB Network on Thursday, June 15, at 9 a.m. (CDT). A Friday, June 16 press conference with the winner will be held at 10 a.m., the opening day just before the first game of the 76th NCAA College World Series.
Â
Lewis and the Trojans continue the final weekend of the regular season at home against Appalachian State with game two tonight at 6 p.m. from Riddle-Pace Field.
