Trojans Close Out Regular Season at Riddle-Pace Field

TROY, Ala. – The 2023 regular season comes to a close this weekend as the Trojans are set to welcome Appalachian State for a three-game series starting on Thursday, May 18 at 6 p.m., capped off with Senior Day on Saturday, May 20.

Troy will honor seniors Nick Woolfolk, Zach Fruit, Hudson Hartsfield, Brandon Schrepf, Mason Kenney, Noah Janney, Donovan Whibbs, Caleb Bartolero, and Clay Stearns before the first pitch on Saturday.

Troy Athletics has announced numerous concession specials and promotions that fans can enjoy throughout the series. All weekend fans can get their hands on a $2 Busch Light beer. In addition, hot dogs are just $1 on Thursday, followed by $3 hamburgers on Friday. Saturday's special for fans is popcorn for just 1$.

Only one game separates the two sides in the conference standings as they meet on the final weekend of the regular season for the second straight year. Troy has won seven of the last nine meetings with the Mountaineers. Troy is 20-7 overall, with 16 wins coming at Riddle-Pace Field.

Senior Caleb Bartolero goes into the weekend series as only one of six Trojans to amass 50 doubles for his career.

William Sullivan, Donovan Whibbs, Hudson Hartsfield, and Keaton Fuller were all named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team on Tuesday.

In game one against Marshall, Sullivan was hit for the 24^th time this season, giving him 43 for his career, which is the most by a player in Troy baseball history.

History can be made this weekend as Shane Lewis is one home run shy of setting the single-season record for most home runs. At 26 home runs this year, Lewis is second in the nation and leads the Sun Belt in the category having the most by a Sun Belt Player since 2009.

Lewis is nine RBIs away from also setting the Troy RBI record for a single season; with 73 this season, he is second all-time.

Entering the final weekend of conference play, Tremayne Cobb Jr. is hitting a team-high .355 against Sun Belt opponents with five home runs, 27 hits, 24 RBIs, and 16 runs scored.

Grayson Stewart will go for his ninth win of the season, looking to become the first Trojan pitcher to win nine games since 2021. Stewart has been one of the best Sun Belt pitchers this season, with a 3.27 ERA and 78 strikeouts to lead the Trojans.

Know the Foe: Appalachian State
App State (26-21, 15-11) is coming off their first conference sweep of the season, taking all three games at home against Arkansas State last weekend. Xander Hamilton was named the Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season after recording a program-record 15 strikeouts across eight scoreless and one-hit innings in the Mountaineers' May 5 victory over No. 8 Coastal Carolina. Hamilton has now recorded a league-best 103 strikeouts on the season, which ranks 8^th nationally and is the most by an App State pitcher in a single season. However, their 7.72 team ERA ranks last in the Sun Belt.
