AUBURN, Ala. – Troy sophomore Brantley Scott shot a 5-over 77 in Monday's opening round of the NCAA Auburn Regional at the Auburn University Club. He is tied for 50th place individually and just six shots back of qualifying for the NCAA Championship.
Scott battled some early nerves with bogeys on three of his first five holes before settling in and carding 11 pars, a bogey and a double-bogey over final 13 holes. The Dothan, Ala., native carded his lone birdie of the day on the par-5, 587-yard third.
The top individual on a non-advancing team (top five) qualifies for the NCAA Championship. Scott would be the first Trojan since Cam Norman in 2017 to advance past the Regional stage. Ohio State and Vanderbilt are tied for fifth after the opening round and both have golfers at 1-under, which would the individual mark if the event ended today.
Scott's 77 is tied for his highest round of the year matching his final round of the Little Rock Invitational in the fall; he bounced back to shoot 11-under par in the three rounds following the initial 77.
Scott will tee off at 10:01 a.m. Tuesday for the second round along with Southern Miss' Cameron Clarke and Siena's Dan Brooks.
