Men’s Tennis Falls in SBC Semifinals

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. – The Troy men's tennis team saw its season come to an end Friday afternoon with a 4-1 loss to top-seeded South Alabama in the semifinals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament at the Peachtree City Tennis Center.
South Alabama (17-7) won the doubles point and followed with wins on courts two, three and six in singles to clinch its spot in Saturday's championship match. Playing in his final match for Troy (18-7), Vito Llinares won on court five to secure the Trojans' lone point of the match.
Llinares dominated his match against Martin Bugaj, winning 6-0 in the first set and 6-3 in the second set. He finishes his Troy career 60-22 in dual matches following Friday's victory.
The Jags won 6-4 on courts one and three to take the doubles point before Llinares tied the match with his win on court five. South Alabama regained the lead with straight sets wins on courts six and three.
On court two, Carles Anton won the first set 6-3, but Maxime St-Hilaire rallied back to win 6-2 in the final two sets to claim the win on court two and the match for South Alabama.
Sun Belt Freshman of the Year Mario Martinez Serrano was leading South Alabama's Sebastien Collard, who was named the league's Player of the Year, 7-5, 4-5, on court one, while Noah Martens was tied 1-set all on court four when the match was halted.
Troy's appearance in the semifinals marked the third straight year that the Trojans reached the Sun Belt's final four under head coach Rolando Vargas.
