Samford Visits Troy in Midweek Matchup

TROY, Ala. – After a four-game road trip, the Trojans return home to Riddle-Pace Field Tuesday for a midweek clash against Samford. The first pitch between the Trojans and the Bulldogs is set for 6 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
This will be the 23rd straight year these two in-state opponents have matched up with one another. The series dates back to 1957. Troy holds a 45-26 overall record against Samford while going 27-7 when games are played in Troy.
The Trojans will be looking to make it two wins in a row over Samford after winning last season's matchup in Birmingham 10-8. Troy trailed 7-6 in the top of the ninth inning and rallied for a four-run inning to complete the comeback.

After taking the series from Arkansas State, the Trojans will turn to Kristian Asbury on the mound. Asbury will be making his second mid-week start of the season with 15 appearances out of the bullpen. Asbury has a 5.87 ERA with 39 strikeouts in 23.0 innings pitched thus far, with opponents hitting .253 against him.
Troy's pitching continues to be one of the best strikeout teams in the country. They enter Tuesday 11th in the country and first in the Sun Belt Conference in strikeouts per nine innings averaging 11.0 a game. Troy is the only team in the conference to have three pitchers among the top 10 in total strikeouts, with Ben Thompson (54), Brady Fuller (51), and Zach Fruit (53). Fruit is 11th in the nation in strikeouts per nine innings with 14.03.
Shane Lewis hit his 15th home run over the weekend, putting him in fourth for most by a player this season. He only needs four more home runs to become the program's all-time leader in home runs in a single season in the Bbcor era.
Troy has hit 61 home runs on the year as a team, the most since 2010. The top two home run hitters in the Sun Belt wear the cardinal and white as Lewis leads the league and is followed by William Sullivan with 14 home runs.
Kole Myers has a nine-game hitting streak entering Tuesday which is the most by a Trojan this season. In addition, Troy's leadoff hitter has reached base safely in 16 straight games and has played in all but one of Troy's 33 games this season.

The Southern Conference leaders come into Troy with an 18-14 overall record. Right-handed pitcher Jacob Newman will get the start for the Bulldogs. Newman will be making his sixth-midweek start of the season and is coming off a season-high three innings of work at North Alabama on April 4. Stephen Klein comes in as the Bulldogs' leading hitter with a .383 batting average that ranks sixth in the SoCon. Garrett Staton leads the squad with 31 runs scored, John Anderson leads the club, SoCon with nine home runs, and sits sixth with 31 RBI.
