Women's Golf Finishes Third at GSU Invitational

JOHN'S CREEK, Ga. – Led by a 1-under 71 from freshman Katelynn Altese in Tuesday's final round and a ninth-place finish from freshman Laura Fangmeyer, the Troy women's golf team finished third at the Georgia State Invitational held at the Rivermont Golf Club.
Troy entered the final round in fourth place and four shots back of host Georgia State, but the Trojans rallied with a 2-over 290 as a team in the final round to leapfrog the hosts into third place. The 16-team field wrapped up the second round early on Tuesday as darkness halted play Monday before teams were finished.
Fangmeyer finished the week 1-over with a pair of 72s to open play and a 1-over 73 in the final round; she tied for third in the field with nine overall birdies. It marks her second top-10 finish of the season, both coming in the spring. Fangmeyer has two top 10s and a top 13 on her resume in four events since the break.
Lipscomb won the team title by five shots over Charlotte, with Troy 18 shots back in third. The Trojans clipped four teams who were ranked ahead of them in the GolfStat national rankings heading into the event.
Altese, who tied for 19th place, made an 11-spot move up the leaderboard with her fourth round under par this season. She carded two birdies and made just one bogey for her fourth top-25 finish in seven events this year.
ShaeLee Scarberry recorded her seventh top-25 finish in eight events this year after tying for 14th place with a 5-over 221 for the week. She rounded out play with a 1-over 73 for the second straight round, carding three consecutive birdies on 11, 12 and 13. She finished the week with seven birdies and tied Altese for third in the field with a 1-under across all the par 3s.
Elisabeth Preus tied for 23rd place after rallying with a 1-over 73 on Tuesday, thanks to a card with three birdies. She opened the tournament with a 2-over 74 before shooting 5-over in round two; she finished with six birdies. Bruna Roqueta tied for 36th place at 12-over for the week with four birdies.
