TROY, Ala. – After leading Troy to back-to-back 20-win seasons with double-digit conference victories, Zay Williams is named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches All-District 23 Second Team, the NABC announced Tuesday afternoon.
"Zay Williams is very deserving to be named to the NABC All-District Second Team," head coach Scott Cross said. "Zay has helped us in every possible way: offense, defense, rebounding, leadership, toughness, on the court, off the court, great teammate, extremely coachable, reliable, competitive, winner, etc. Zay is a big reason why we have had back-to-back 20-win seasons. He has helped build the foundation of a successful program, and I am very thankful and honored to have had the opportunity to coach him here at Troy over the past four years."
In 2022-23, the All-Sun Belt Second Team member produced career-high numbers in numerous categories, including points, steals and field goal percentage at 12.2, 1.1 and 53.7, respectively. For the Trojans, the Birmingham native led the team in points, field goals made, field goal percentage (min. 10 shots), rebounds and blocks in 29.17 minutes per game.
Starting all 33 games played, Williams also ranked 22nd in the Sun Belt Conference for average points at 12.2 and rebounds at 7.1. In those 33 games, the forward scored in double-figures 23 times, with his season-high of 26 coming against the 2023 Sun Belt Tournament Champions, Lousiana.
Williams' legacy at Troy continues to grow as the senior ended his career in the top 10 in points, field goals made, field goal percentage, free throws made, rebounding average, blocks and rebounds in Troy Division-I history – finished one rebound shy of Jordan Vernado for most rebounds. He also joined an elite group as the 11th player in Troy D-I history to score 1,000 points, ending seventh all-time with 1,209 points.
