Trojans Host Columbia in First-Ever Meeting

TROY, Ala. – The Trojans return to Troy after winning their series with UCF and turn their attention to a mid-week matchup with Columbia on Tuesday, March 14, at 6 p.m. The first-ever meeting between the two programs will be broadcast on ESPN+.
This will only be the second time ever the Trojans have matched up with a program out of the Ivy League. The last time came in 2010 when Troy played and swept Brown in a four-game series.

Troy comes into Tuesday night, winning their last two games over UCF and giving the Trojans their second consecutive series win over the Knights. This will be the 14th home game of the year played in the friendly confines of Riddle-Pace Field, with Troy coming in with an 11-2 record at home.
Eight home runs were the most hit last year by a single Trojan. Shane Lewis has already surpassed that mark after hitting his ninth on Sunday. Lewis has 31 RBIs on the season, ranking fourth in the nation. In his first two years in a Trojan uniform, William Sullivan hit a total of nine home runs; he has hit seven in 2023 thus far. Both Lewis and Sullivan have reached base safely in all 16 games and rank among the best in the Sun Belt Conference in multiple offensive categories.
In his last mid-week start, Ben Thompson struck out a season-high for a Toy pitcher 12 batters. Thompson will get the start and enters Tuesday with a 1-0 record 5.56 ERA in 11.1 innings pitched. The Trojans will be going up against Dane Miller, who has pitched in 2.2 innings, allowing 10 runs on seven hits, four walks, and two strikeouts; he has an earned run average of 16.87.
Both Troy and Columbia rank in the top 10 in the RPI ranking. The Lions sit at third, and Troy is up to eighth, having a 5-1 record in quadrant two wins, 3-0 in Q3 and 5-0 in Q4.
The Trojans have gotten themselves out of jams this season, turning 19 double plays leading the Sun Belt Conference and third in the nation. Opponents are just 2 for 23 with the bases loaded (.087), while Troy is 8 for 17 (.471) on the year.
Know Your Foe: Columbia
The Lions come to Troy having taken two out of three against ranked Alabama over the weekend. Despite the series victory, the Lions are 4-6 overall. Columbia is led by Hayden Schott, who is hitting .442 on the season and leads the team in hits, doubles, and home runs. The Lions' pitching staff has a 6.75 ERA, with opponents hitting .291 against them.
